Why You Shouldn't Ignore Regular Diabetes Checkups

The food we eat contains carbohydrates, proteins, fat, minerals, and various sorts of vitamins. Food like cereals, wheat, rice, dairy products, fruits, and sugary food contain carbohydrates that break down in our stomach and digestive system and this broken paste is converted into glucose in our stomach. The body derives its energy from this glucose to help us do daily activities and fight various ailments.

The glucose produced in the stomach goes into the bloodstreams of the body leading to higher glucose levels. Another gland called pancreas located beneath the stomach starts releasing a hormone called insulin. Both insulin and glucose enters the bloodstream supplying energy that we get from food. So basically, insulin and glucose are both essential for a healthy human body.

But what happens, sometimes your body stops producing insulin resulting in higher blood sugar levels, therefore causing diabetes. Diabetes is a serious medical condition where your body stops releasing insulin affecting the entire body. Insulin is a hormone that tells cells to open up to receive glucose. If there is no insulin, the sugar level in the blood increases which ultimately causes diabetes. In this article, we will be covering various aspects of diabetes and why you should take regular diabetes checkups seriously.

Types of Diabetes

Here we will discuss two types of diabetes mostly found in human beings:

Type 1

Type 1 is also known as Juvenile Diabetes. Mostly, it is found in children but sometimes it is also diagnosed in adults. So type 1 can occur at any age. 5 to 10 percent of people become the victim of diabetes type 1. Your pancreas stops producing insulin. Sudden weight loss, wetting bed, flu-like symptoms, and so on are some examples of type 1 diabetes.

Type 2

Type 2 is also known as adult-onset diabetes which commonly happens after a certain stage of life. It occurs when the body stops producing insulin or cells do not use insulin properly. Over 90 percent of people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. But in recent years, type 2 diabetes has also been found in children and adults. Blurry vision, tiredness, frequent urination, increased thirst, and hunger are a few examples of type 2 diabetes.

Causes of Diabetes

Here we will discuss some causes of diabetes in detail:

Hereditary

Sometimes, you receive diabetes from your family. Family history can be a major cause of Diabetes.

Other Factors

Other major reasons for diabetes include intake of medication, smoking, high blood pressure, obesity, and unbalanced cholesterol levels.

Symptoms of Diabetes

Your diabetes symptoms depend upon your sugar level. Most of the time, the symptoms of diabetes 2 do not appear easily but the symptoms of type 1 quickly appear.

Here are some of the major symptoms of diabetes:

Importance of a Diabetes Checkup

If you are facing the symptoms mentioned above then you should take a Blood Glucose Test which is a test to diagnose Diabetes. You must have to test your blood sugar levels as it provides information regarding various effects of diabetes in your body. Apart from this, it also tells the exact blood sugar level in your body. It tracks the progress of your diabetes treatment. If you regularly check your blood sugar level, you can manage type 1 and type 2 diabetes in a short period.

Diabetes is a dangerous disease and not managing it on time and not controlling it can lead to complete blindness, kidney failure, weight loss, heart attack, amputation, extreme hunger, increased thirst and increased urination causing dehydration in the body. As we have already discussed that diabetes can occur at any age so you should go for regular Blood Sugar Test
